West Yorkshire kennels and catteries 2026: star ratings and prices
We collected the council licence rating of every licensed kennel, cattery and home dog boarder we could find in Leeds, Kirklees, Calderdale, Wakefield and Bradford, and the prices they publish online. This is what the 336 businesses look like.
Key findings
- 51% of rated boarding businesses hold the top 5 stars (154 of 300). 17 hold just 1 or 2 stars.
- Home boarders outscore kennels. 56% of licensed home dog boarders hold 5 stars, against 34% of kennels and catteries. Most kennels and catteries hold 3 stars (40 of 64).
- Only 24 of 93 kennels and catteries (26%) publish a price on their website. Most owners have to phone round for a quote.
- A dog typically costs £26 a day and a cat £15 a day, so a week away is around £182 for one dog or £105 for one cat, before any Christmas supplement (estimate from published prices).
- 41 rated licences show a renewal date that has already passed on the council's published list. Most are likely renewed and the list not yet updated, but owners should ask to see a current licence.
- Bradford Council does not publish its ratings online, so Bradford owners cannot check a rating without asking.

How we did it
Star ratings and licence dates come from the published licence registers of Leeds, Kirklees, Calderdale and Wakefield councils (Open Government Licence), downloaded on 2 November 2026. Businesses were matched to public listings by name and location. Prices come from each business's own website. We did not include day care-only businesses. Full sources are on About the data.
